The business buzz of The Hive Enterprise Centre

“Our Business Building is Building Businesses”

Business growth is all about planning, flexibility, collaboration and the ability to adapt and change. The new Hive Enterprise Centre in Southend Victoria builds on this and is fast transforming the way new and growing businesses start-up, survive and grow in Southend and across South Essex

Located on the top two floors of the Beecroft Building above the Beecroft Art Gallery in the heart of Southend’s major regeneration zone, Victoria Avenue, The Hive has rapidly become South Essex’s go-to hub for entrepreneurship and enterprise growth.

“Since launching in June 2015 The Hive has become home to more than 50 SMEs and is now a major business meeting & conference destination for this part of the world” says Seb Coombs, The Hive’s Operations Manager.

“The key to our success is our easy-in-easy-out all-inclusive License deal for some rather exciting and inspirational short and medium term serviced offices and our open-plan co-working spaces”, says Seb. “Our in-house Business Support team operated by the BEST Growth Hub will signpost SMEs to a wealth of publicly funded business support and more importantly, we’re grateful for our relationship with all the firms involved in 4business both as referral partners and as regular event sponsors ” Coombs proudly remarks.

Emily Whitfield, the Hive’s Events Coordinator is keen to ensure that all local businesses share the benefits of The Hive’s exciting working environment “Over 5,000 business delegates have passed through our spaces attending our business workshops, seminars and masterclasses. Our free-to-attend Networking & Cake events have gone from strength-to-strength with more than 50 delegates taking advantage of our no-strings-attached networking, the all-important free cake and genuine opportunities to do real business together”

” I am determined to change the perception of Southend from its bucket and spade and cockles and mussels image to a “this is not Southend this could be Shoreditch feel ”

The Hive Southend Victoria is the brainchild of Mark Kass, an experienced regeneration expert, SME support ambassador and the renowned social entrepreneur and Founder of Enterprise4Good Group, one of the UK’s leading business-focussed regeneration and enterprise support agencies.

“I set up The Hive in Southend as a not-for-profit social enterprise to ensure we focus on the growth of our clients rather than our own profits and I am determined to change the perception of Southend from its bucket and spade and cockles and mussels image to a “this is not Southend this could be Shoreditch feel” says Kass.

“Over the last three years, we’ve worked hard to create a self-generating and self-sustaining “SMEcosystem™” at The Hive that encourages and supports new start-ups, creates and protects new and existing local jobs and helps regenerate a tired, near redundant public building by converting it into a proverbial ‘hive’ of activity for local entrepreneurs keen to grow their business and upping the volume of the business ‘buzz’ that Southend is fast becoming renowned for across East London and South Essex”

The Hive’s Networking and Cake events take place on the last Friday of every month, are completely free to attend and open to attendance and sponsorship by all readers of 4Business.
